Preparing Cook Food: Tips For Handling

September 7, 2011 – For those that are avid cooks, then more than likely they know that there are a few things that they have to do in the kitchen to ensure that the foods that they are cooking are not becoming contaminated with bacteria and other things that could cause a person to become ill. With this in mind, the person that is cooking should make sure that they are following a few tips.

The first tip is to not use the same area for different foods. For example, you would not want to cut your vegetables on the same cutting board that just minutes before you were cutting raw chicken or other types of meat. Meat is a food that is going to have a lot of bacteria in it since it is still raw, when compared to vegetables it is the worse food to have for bacteria that lingers. Therefore, make sure that you are using separate cutting boards, or at least disinfecting the same cutting board to make it work for all the foods. The same goes for the knife that the person is using to cut the foods since it can too can have bacteria linger on the blade.

Another tip that people are going to want to listen to is make sure that in between preparing different foods that they are washing their hands as well. Their hands can have bacteria linger on them for many hours in between handling the foods, thus, they should make sure that they are doing their best to remove all of this before handling the foods that they are cooking.

One of the things that most people do and do not even realize that this is causing problems is that they use the same towel to dry their hands, wipe up the messes on the counter and so forth. This can be dangerous for those that are waning to make sure that the food is being handled safely. After all, when a person touches the raw chicken, then wipes their hand on the towel, they are transferring that bacteria to the towel. And if they use that same towel to wipe something off the counter, then they have just transferred the bacteria to the counter. Thus, it is a never ending cycle that they are having to deal with.

Overall, when cooking, be sure that you are using the same precision that you use when preparing your foods and handling them – like someone with a food handler permit. Just because the food is washed does not mean that the cooking process is free from contamination.
